Interested in voice lessons?

Do you love to sing, but feel like your voice is limiting you?
Or perhaps you have an upcoming audition or performance and could use some help preparing.
Many singers come to their first lesson with clear goals, others are simply curious to explore what their voice is capable of.
Common concerns or goals that I often hear:
-
A desire to branch out and be able to sing a variety of musical styles.
-
Frustration cause by vocal fatigued after long rehearsals.
-
A need to prepare for an audition.
-
Improve ability to sight-read and sing harmony.
During your private voice lesson, we will work together to address those areas that are a priority for you. Through improved breathing and vocal technique, plus lessons reviewing basic music theory, you will develop a stronger and versatile singing and speaking voice, improved ear training and sight-reading skills, and discover the freedom and confidence that comes with a healthy voice.

What my students love about their lessons

"I can’t recommend Amelia enough as a voice teacher and coach. I reached out to her looking for some guidance while I explored the middle part of my range (to access more of a mix-belt for musical theater and contemporary rep), and she has been a fantastic resource. Her warm ups and exercises are very effective, and they were easy to implement in my warm up routine. She was flexible with and responsive to my needs in lessons as I navigated both musical theatre auditions and solo performances of rock/pop music. Since working just on a monthly basis with Amelia, I’ve noted more ease throughout my range, as well as increased control and stamina over longer performance sets. Amelia is a wonderful asset to performers of any genre in and around the Charlottesville area! "

"Before working with Ms. Amelia I was scared to sing in front of other people. I wasn’t even completely sure I wanted to take lessons because I was so nervous. Since working with Ms. Amelia over the past year and a half my voice has become stronger and my confidence has grown. She’s helped me prepare for many auditions and most recently helped me prepare for my role as Veruca Salt in the musical Willy Wonka, Jr. I don’t know if I would’ve been able to enjoy all the vocal experiences I had this year if it wasn’t for Ms. Amelia and the confidence she’s helped me build."

"I've been singing in church choirs since I was in high school, but never had any formal training. I felt I had two distinctly different sounds, and wanted help working on the transition between my chest and head voice. Amelia taught me how to smooth out the abrupt break, and how to exercise that part of my range. As a bonus, she really helped me with my confidence. I used to be tentative when singing something that I thought was out of my range. Amelia encouraged me to go for it - what was the worst thing that could happen, my voice would crack? Or, I may unlock something in my voice that I didn't know existed. She makes you feel so comfortable that the fear of making a mistake or sounding bad is nonexistent. I'm now a lot more comfortable trying new things with my voice and seeing what works."

Commonly Asked Questions about Voice Lessons
Where is your studio located?
My studio is located just outside of Crozet, approximately 15 minutes west of the City of Charlottesville and 5 minutes from downtown Crozet. Parking is available.

How long do I need to take lessons before I see results? How do I know it will be worth the investment?
That depends on your age, how ingrained certain habits are in your singing, the frequency of lessons and how much you practice on your own. In general, the more students also invest in practicing on their own, the sooner they start to see positive changes!

Do you teach piano?
No, I am not teaching private piano lessons at this time. Basic music theory, ear-training, and sight-reading are often included for those without a background in piano or another instrument.
